Wines of Germany: Pinot Noir

Wines of Germany and I are partnering this season to bring you three comforting summer recipes that pair with different German grape varieties. Whether you are hosting a family BBQ or planning a casual picnic with friends, there’s a German wine for every occasion this season.

First up is Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder in Germany! This light bodied red is perfect for year around enjoyment. I know when you think of German wines, Riesling usually comes to mind.  I’m here to share that Germany also produces very impressive Pinot Noir. After France and the US, Germany is the 3rd largest Pinot Noir producer. The grape does best in cool weather conditions, which makes Germany a perfect place for producing Pinot Noir.

PAIRING PINOT NOIR

It’s time to grill! I’ve always loved Summertime, not just because of the weather but also because of grilling season. When I think about grilling, the first thing that comes to mind are delicious hamburgers!

Pinot Noir can pair with a variety of foods – from fish to steak and almost everything in between. I wanted to do a twist on the classic hamburger and create something that has the freshness of the season and to showcase just how well Pinot Noir can pair with tangy and sweeter flavors.

I thought a fun, bright, freshly grilled Teriyaki Burger would be a unique yet approachable way to pair this 2018 Enderle & Moll Liaison Pinot Noir. Hailing from Germany’s southernmost region of Baden, a place dubbed the Pinot Paradise, this match was an insanely delicious pairing experience.
