Wines of Germany: Riesling

Wines of Germany and I are back with another wine and summer recipe pairing! This time we are featuring Riesling, Germany’s most iconic and celebrated grape variety. Riesling is one of the most versatile grapes in the wine world and can be made bone dry, lusciously sweet, or anywhere in between. This one is dry – or Trocken as they say in German – and from Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region.

While Riesling grows and flourishes worldwide, Germany is its home, and there’s more of it planted in Germany than anywhere else. Riesling is considered by many wine experts to be the most noble of white grapes because it’s distinct flavors, high acidity, age-worthiness (yes you can age white wine!), and its ability to pair with almost anything.

PAIRING RIESLING

I love fresh seafood year-round, but especially during the warm summer months. Lobster is often considered a luxury but preparing it in a lobster roll style makes it less intimidating for some and easy to enjoy.

German Dry Rieslings are often fragrant, fruit forward and food friendly. This 2018 Louis Guntrum Dry Riesling offers great acidity that cuts through the natural sweetness of the lobster and stands up to the richness of the butter sauce and brioche bun.
